Grammer Time: Mixed Conditionals

Mixed conditionalscombine two different types of conditional patterns.

Unreal conditionals (type Ii + III) sometimes can be mixed, that is, the time of the if clause is different from the one of the main clause.

By Condition / Present Result

  • If I had taken an aspirin, I wouldn't accept a headache now.
  • If Ihadn't missed my bus, Iwould exist in France at present.
  • If Ihad slept longer, Iwouldn't be tired now.
  • If shehad triedharder, shewould bdue east more successful at present.
  • If Ihad saved more than money Iwould own this house.
  • If you hadn't taken that task wewould be traveling together.
  • If they had paid more attention theywouldn't bedeclining in class.
  • If Ihad won the lottery, Iwould be rich.
  • If Ihad bought it, then itwould be worth $i.v million today.
  • If Ihad studied finance, Iwould have more job opportunities.
  • If Ihad won that contest, Iwould be rich right now.
  • If he'd taken the medication every bit prescribed, he wouldn't still be lying ill in bed.
  • If she'd taken reasonable precautions, she wouldn't exist pregnant at present.

Notation that we can also convey the same thought of by effect and present consequence by using blazon iii conditional (if + past perfect, would've + by participle) in both clauses.Note that we use this type of conditional when we regret past activity or inaction.

  • If Iwere more than outgoing, Iwould have asked her out.
  • If Iwereyou, Iwould have gone to the party.
  • If she had enough money, she could take done this trip to Hawaii.

Nowadays Condition / Futurity Result

  • If I were yous, I would be spending my vacation in Seattle.

Time to come Status / Past Result

  • If Iweren't going on my trip adjacent week, Iwould have accustomed that new assignment.

Task 2. Rephrase the sentences using mixed conditionals.

Instance: You didn't stop your piece of work on time because you lot are a procrastinator. – If I weren't such a procrastinator, I would have finished my work on time.

  1. You were tardily for a boot-off meeting. Now, y'all don't know the details of the projection.
  2. Yous should be participating in a business meeting now, merely you are not. Your taxi didn't come on time.
  3. Y'all are a really skilful worker. You got promoted.
